SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - In a press release WTOC just received, Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools announced it has achieved a 99% graduation rate for students enrolled in Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) programs, surpassing the state average.

The Georgia Department of Education recently revealed the statewide graduation rate for students in CTAE programs reached 98.45%. SCCPSS says this rate applies to students who complete a Career Pathway and exceeds the overall state graduation rate by 11.25 percentage points.

SCCPSS outperformed the state with its 99% CTAE graduation rate, highlighting the success of the district’s career-focused programs.

“A 99% CTAE graduation rate reflects more than achievement, it reflects a belief that when our students are empowered with purpose and skill, their future becomes limitless,” said Dr. Angie Lewis, SCCPSS CTAE Executive Director. “I am so proud of our students who are Prepared, Empowered and Future-Ready.”

CTAE programs prepare Savannah students for careers

CTAE programs allow students to learn real-world skills through Career Pathways while earning industry credentials and participating in work-based learning and apprenticeship opportunities. The programs prepare students for their next steps after high school, whether they plan to pursue higher education, enter the military, accept apprenticeships, or begin careers immediately.

SCCPSS Chief Academic Officer Derrick Butler called the results “amazing news and a testament to the exceptional work happening in our schools.”

State School Superintendent Richard Woods said CTAE opportunities are central to Georgia’s efforts to become the “Top State for Talent.”

“These programs allow students to discover their interests and strengths, develop real-world skills, and connect learning in the classroom to high-demand careers across Georgia,” Woods said. “From aviation and advanced manufacturing to healthcare, agriculture, information technology, and skilled trades, CTAE opens doors for students in every region of our state.”

Dr. Barbara Wall, Deputy Superintendent for Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education, said the graduation rates show that well-aligned Career Pathways keep students engaged in their education.

“CTAE delivers by connecting learning to real workforce needs, meaning students leave high school prepared to move confidently into college, careers, apprenticeships, or military service,” Wall said.

The high graduation rates demonstrate the impact of career-focused education on student success and preparation for post-secondary opportunities.
