SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A Savannah mother is speaking publicly for the first time about the loss of her son, who was shot and killed in their neighborhood earlier this year.

Now, months later, Felicia Walker said her family is still waiting for answers and accountability in the death of her son, 34-year-old Jamelle Grimes.

“On January 16, 2026, my life changed,” Walker said.

“On January 16, 2026, my life changed,” Grimes said.

According to Savannah Police, the deadly shooting happened on a Friday night in January in the 800 block of Carter Street. At the time, police said both weapons used in the shooting were recovered. One man was taken to the hospital, and another man died at the scene.

Walker said that man was her son.

WTOC reached out to Savannah Police about the case. The department said the investigative file has been provided to the district attorney’s office for review.

Flowers, candles, photos, and a celebratory bottle mark the spot where Jamelle lost his life in the neighborhood where he grew up.

Felicia said family members came to her door that night and told her Jamelle had been shot.

“They came to tell me that Jamelle had been shot,” she said. “We got around here. Police, it was all taped off.”

Walker said her son’s death has left a hole across generations. Jamelle leaves behind two children, a 15-year-old son and a 6-year-old son, along with countless family members and loved ones.

“My granddaughter said, ‘Grandma, I don’t feel safe in this house anymore. Uncle protected us,’” Walker said.

She described Jamelle as the protector of the family.

“He was our protector, our big teddy bear. So loved. He was so lovable,” she said.

Jamelle would have turned 35 later this month. Instead of planning a birthday celebration, his family is preparing to honor him with a celebration of life.

Walker said the grief has been constant.

“Every day. Every day. It’s not a day that I can’t,” she said.

She said her family wants to continue honoring Jamelle’s life and memory while waiting for justice.

“No justice. None at all,” Walker said.
