Savannah elementary school principal faces DUI charge
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The principal of Gadsden Elementary is now facing a DUI charge.
Latasha Quarterman was arrested and charged with DUI and speeding and booked into the Chatham County Detention Center around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday. She bonded out later that day.
We reached out to the Savannah Chatham County Public School System for comment- a spokesperson told us Quarterman reported her own arrest, as is required by district policy.
Quarterman’s duties have not been reassigned, only employees whose job responsibilities require operating a district vehicle have duties reassigned in the event of a DUI.
The spokesperson added that once HR has reviewed the official police report, next steps will be taken, saying, “Potential consequences for an employee in the district’s progressive discipline plan can range from a warning to removal from their position. There are several factors that come into play when determining discipline...job performance, frequency, circumstances surrounding the incident, etc.”
The district also says the arrest will be reported to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
We’ve requested the police report from the arrest but haven’t heard back yet.
