Felon arrested after firearm malfunctions in Bulloch County

BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A convicted felon is facing new gun charges in Bulloch County after investigators say a gun malfunction led to injury and an arrest.

Bulloch county Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrested John Victor Lowery on July 20th after reports of a gun-related injury to the chest

Deputies said a rifle malfunctioned which caused burning gunpowder and metal fragments to injury the shooter. Investigators determined the subject was not struck by the bullet.

During the investigation, deputies discovered Lowery is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms. A search of the home led to finding 10 firearms, several magazines, ammunition and gun accessories.

Lowery as arrested and charged with:

- 10 counts- Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon

- Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers

- False Statements or Writings

- Reckless Conduct

The investigation remains active, and addition charges may be forthcoming.
