Savannah Chatham Public School System holds ribbon cutting for new CTAE building
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah- Chatham County Public School system held a ribbon cutting Thursday for their newest building edition to Groves High School.
The Career, Technical, Agricultural Education building or CTAE was designed to be an aviation maintenance and logistics pathway for students after graduation with partners like Gulf Stream and Savannah Technical College.
Dr. Angie Lewis, the Executive Director for the Office of College and Career Readiness at Groves High school said, “we wanted this building to mimic the workplace, we wanted the students that come here and receive the training, they will be working in an environment here that they will be working at in the actual work place.”
Dr. Lewis also told WTOC that the students will be taught by professionals that have real world experience, like Mr. Aleen who is a retired Black operations military personnel who fixed those planes.
WTOC also talked with Jamell Daniels, the heavy equipment instructor at Groves High school who told us he is building this program from the ground up. Right before Daniels took over, the students where learning from a trailer.
“It means a lot to me being here and doing this for these kids, its something we never had in high school so its a big opportunity for them to be industry ready straight out of high school with certifications,” said Daniels.
