SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Voters across Georgia’s 1st Congressional District headed to the polls Tuesday to weigh in on a crowded Republican primary race to replace U.S. Representative Buddy Carter.

The district, which includes Savannah and stretches from Chatham County south to Charlton County, has drawn several candidates hoping to earn the GOP nomination and represent southeast Georgia in Congress.

Six Republican candidates are on the ballot: Brian Montgomery, Krista Penn, Kandiss Taylor, Eugene Yu, Patrick Farrell, and Trump-endorsed James Kingston.

Voters are deciding which Republican candidate they believe is best positioned to represent the district in Washington and succeed Carter.
