SCCPSS choice program applications open this weekend
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah Chatham County Public Schools will open applications for its choice programs Saturday, coinciding with the district’s annual Student Success Expo and STEM Festival.
The application window runs from Jan. 10 through Jan. 25, giving parents about two weeks to complete applications for the district’s themed magnet programs.
“Choice programs are themed magnet programs that students can apply for,” said Dr. Jessica Horton, SCCPSS Choice Program Coordinator. “We have choice programs for students from kindergarten all the way up to 12th grade.”
The programs allow students to attend schools outside their attendance zones based on special interests such as performing arts, science or agriculture.
Application process and requirements
Students already enrolled in SCCPSS need only fill out the application. Students applying from outside the district must upload academic documents, with specific requirements listed on the district website.
The same application window covers Georgia Pre-K applications for 4-year-olds and Little Acorn Academy applications for 3-year-olds.

Student Success Expo returns to school campus
The Student Success Expo will take place Saturday at the Davis Edwards Harris Educational Complex, which houses Groves High School and Mercer Middle School. This marks the first time in the expo’s 17-year history that it will be held at a school facility.
“We’ll have representation from all 55 of our schools,” said Dr. Angie Lewis, SCCPSS Executive Director of College and Career Readiness.
The expo will feature principals, staff members and students from district schools, along with hands-on activities and live student performances. Students can participate in competitions including extemporaneous speaking, public speaking, straw tower and egg drop challenges.
Industry partners and regional colleges will also attend, showing career pathways from pre-K through post-secondary education and into local employment.
The event will begin with a Parade of Schools featuring marching bands from Groves High School and Jenkins High School.
