Route change announced on Walk for Peace

by Lorenza Medley

SOUTH CAROLINA (FOX Carolina) - The route the monks will be taking on the Walk for Peace has changed.

On Friday morning, the Walk for Peace journey coordinator notified Elbert County Emergency Services that the monks would now travel through Columbia.

Originally, the monks were set to travel through Elbert County and Abbeville County this month.

While the monks will no longer be walking through part of the Upstate, they still plan to make their way to the nation’s capital.

According to their Facebook page, the monks are walking through 10 states, visiting state Capitols along the way.

Their journey began on Oct. 26 in Fort Worth, Texas, with their loyal dog Aloka, coined the Peace Dog. The journey is expected to last at most 120 days and span 2,300 miles as they make their way to Washington, D.C. They are expected to arrive in the nation’s capital on Feb. 12.

On the Walk for Peace Facebook page, the walk is being done to raise awareness of peace, loving kindness and compassion across the nation and the world.
