Rincon community raises money for child with leukemia

RINCON, Ga. (WTOC) - The city of Rincon showed up Saturday in support of one little boy who was diagnosed with cancer at just one year old.

After a one-year-old baby was diagnosed with leukemia, the decision to rally behind the local family receiving that unimaginable news was an easy one for the Rincon community. A fundraiser hoped to raise money and awareness for Triton’s family.

Family faces years of treatment ahead

Triton Ross, at just one year old, will now spend the next 2.5 years in and out of the hospital for months at a time, receiving chemo treatments after his recent diagnosis.

“As a young parent I think this is the hardest thing of my life,” said Trevor Ross, Triton’s father. “And so now it’s a battle of he just learned how to walk maybe three to four months ago, and now he can barely walk, so we are trying to keep him, you know, learning how to stay stable like he was.”

Community comes together

Saturday, friends, family and neighbors rallied behind the Ross family to help with the medical bills to come.

“Everybody’s chipping in the community’s been awesome coming together for us today, I can’t thank the community enough,” said Travis Ross, Triton’s grandfather.

The fundraiser had activities for everyone to enjoy, including face painting, food vendors, games and a big point of raising awareness of Triton’s disease.

“And raising awareness for leukemia, just not for Triton but for every kid, or every person that’s battling this battle,” Travis Ross said.

Trevor Ross said he wants people to remember to be grateful for what they have.

“But I just want to tell everybody just don’t forget to thank God for what you got because it can be taken away but there will be better days and you know you give it to him and y’all be able to prevail and provide,” he said.

Triton will continue his battle against leukemia for the next five years with chemo and then remission.
