Democrat Nancy Lacore outlines priorities in South Carolina U.S. House District 1 race

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WTOC) - Democrat Nancy Lacore said ending corruption and lowering the cost of living are focuses of her campaign for the South Carolina U.S. House District 1 seat.
Lacore is running against Republican Jenny Costa Honeycutt and Libertarian Bill Reeside to fill Nancy Mace’s seat in Washington.
Focus on corruption and service
“The fact that I don’t have a political background, I know how to deliver results,” Lacore said.
“First and foremost it’s about getting after corruption,” Lacore said. “I think across this district now people are starting to make the connection that corruption in D.C. is why their lives are, you know, so hard right now.”
Lacore said her run came after she decided she wanted to continue to serve the country.
“I just felt strongly about continuing my service to our country at a time where I think our country really needs some, you know, some people at the helm who are full of integrity and know how to deliver to people,” Lacore said.
Cost of living and health care
Lacore said her campaign is focused on lowering the cost of living and ending corruption in Washington, D.C.
“Repealing portions of the one big beautiful bill would be important,” Lacore said. “Expanding Medicare’s ability to rapidly start negotiating prescription drug prices. Peeling many of the tariffs that have driven up costs unnecessarily and ending this war with Iran.”
Lacore said her service background sets her apart from the other candidates.
“I think the military is still one of the, you know, most trusted institutions in our government and I think people, you know, respect that and realize that I can do some things that maybe others couldn’t do,” Lacore said.
When asked about the price of health care, Lacore cited her daughter’s cancer diagnosis at age 14 while she was serving in combat in Afghanistan.
“But, you know, we were lucky she was fine and it didn’t drive us into debt but I think about families today getting a diagnosis like that and having to worry about the cost as opposed to just worrying about getting their child healthy again,” Lacore said.
Message to voters
Lacore said voters seeking change would get a leader with integrity, service and competence.
“You want some change across this country and you want your life to improve, then you can choose me and you will get a leader with a, you know, a background of integrity and service and competence,” Lacore said.
