Units from the sheriff’s office arrived at the location to carry out a search warrant, but Shane was not found.

An Uber spokesperson told Atlanta News First they are cooperating with police in their investigation and have suspended Shane’s Uber account.

Shane initially stole an SUV after escaping from the hospital, deputies said. He then crashed the car and ran away from the scene, according to authorities.

One person told Atlanta News First that Shane had crashed that stolen SUV into his car.

The person said they have a long road to recovery and medical challenges.

They provided Atlanta News First with a statement that read:

“I am deeply grateful to be alive, but I am also the victim of a terrible and preventable accident caused by an escaped inmate who was able to evade both Grady hospital security and the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.

This incident should never have happened, and it is clear that increased security measures should have been in place to protect the public.

I am facing a long road of medical challenges and recovery. At this time, my focus is solely on healing and regaining my strength. I will be pursing legal action against all parties responsible. Because of this, I will not be making any further statements."

Shane was last seen wearing a red hoodie and blue pants with no shoes. Authorities believe he is still wearing the same outfit, but now has shoes on.

On Tuesday, Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta posted on social media it’s offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

“We’re not going to stop looking for you,” Rockdale County Sheriff’s Lt. Billy Burrell said. “There’s no reason to make this any worse for you or any of your family or friends. There’s no reason to make this any worse for the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and its citizens. We ask that you do the right thing.”

Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office said they have an internal investigation into Shane’s escape, and into policies for handling inmates with escape history.

Shane was arrested on Nov. 23 on several charges, including possession of methamphetamine, reckless driving and fleeing from police, jail records show.

Conyers police said they tried to pull Shane over on the highway for possibly kidnapping a woman who claimed to have a previous romantic relationship with Shane.

Records from Conyers police show that at times during their pursuit of Shane, he drove 128 mph. The chase then continued into a neighborhood where dash cam videos show Shane hitting a tree, then driving onto the front lawns of homes

Records show the officers found the woman in the car. She had suffered minor injuries.

Records show that the woman said Shane had kidnapped her from her home in Covington and demanded she give him $500.

Officials said he drove her around to different convenience stores and ordered her to withdraw the money from her checking account at an ATM, all while he allegedly had a gun. Records show the woman could only retrieve $200, which she gave to Shane.

While at a convenience store, police said she told the clerk, “Help me.”

At one point during the alleged kidnapping and police pursuit, records state Shane ordered her to wipe his fingerprints from the gun, and she complied out of fear.

According to records, the woman told police she had tried to alert the public and law enforcement throughout the day that she needed help.

Reports state that at the time of the police pursuit, Shane had active warrants out of Newton County for carjacking, armed robbery and gun possession.

After the chase, Shane had been booked into Rockdale County for reckless driving, drug possession and felony fleeing from police.
