GUYTON, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 5:39 p.m.] The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office has shared two photographs of people it believes may be involved in the door-to-door scheme in Guyton.

In a Facebook post, the ECSO says it just received back-to-back calls about men wearing the same outfits in the photos out in the Brent Tree Subdivision and Westwood Heights Subdivision in Rincon in the last 10 minutes. You can view that post, along with the photographs, below:

[ORIGINAL STORY] The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a possible impersonator who went door-to-door in a Guyton neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

In a social media post, the sheriff’s office said they received information about a man going door-to-door in the Samuel Smalls Avenue area of Guyton around 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2026, offering “benefits through the county.”

The man has been described as a male, possibly 5′10″ or 5′11″, carrying a tablet and driving a small red vehicle. He reportedly told residents his name is “Justin,” officials say.

The sheriff’s office did not specify what type of benefits the man was claiming to offer or whether any residents provided personal information to him.

Anyone who sees this person or encounters him should immediately call Guyton Police at 912-772-8745 or the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office at 912-754-3449, officials say.

The warning comes as law enforcement agencies across the region have reported various scams involving people impersonating government officials or utility workers to gain access to homes or personal information.

Residents are reminded to verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent government agencies before providing personal information or allowing access to their homes.
