More than 100 employers in EnMarket Arena for day two of Job Palooza
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The largest multi-county hiring effort in Coastal Georgia continued Friday morning, with people searching for new jobs funneling into EnMarket Arena.
A large component of this hiring event’s success is the more than 1,000 International Paper employees who have to find a new job soon since the company is closing a few weeks ago.
The Regional Industry Support Enterprise (RISE) partnered with International Paper, the City of Savannah, Chatham County, WorkSource Coastal, and Savannah Technical College to host the event.
Around 1,400 people attended the event on Thursday, according to RISE representatives on Friday.
In an effort to continue that constant flow of foot traffic on Friday, the first 300 job seekers received a free breakfast.
Jessica Hood, the Vice President of the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority, said it’s not about just finding a job but finding a career.
“There are resources out there, but making that connection can be difficult, so for this event, it was really important for us to provide the opportunity for the folks that were impacted by IP’s closure to make those connections,” she said.

People can start their careers at Savannah Chatham County Public Schools, too, who are looking to fill instructional support staff, maintenance, and transportation positions.
Custodians, HVAC technicians, roof workers, bus drivers, fleet mechanics, paraprofessionals, and more are available.
“Yesterday we saw over 130 people, so we’re looking to do the same thing today,” said SCCPSS Recruiter Sheena Boykin. “It’s been amazing.”

The event started on Friday at 9 a.m. and wrapped up at 3 p.m.
Like SCCPSS, people can still reach out to these employers through their websites for jobs when this event ends.
