Man sentenced for selling $2 million worth of cocaine out of Ga. home
ATLANTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A man has been sentenced to a decade in prison after he was convicted of selling massive amounts of cocaine from a Fulton County home.
Maurice Lynch, 50, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute in September, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia.
Officials believe he sold about $2 million worth of the stimulant as part of a nationwide trafficking conspiracy.
“Let the word get out that if you spread poison in our community, there is no way you can run and hide from the U.S. Marshal’s service,” Thomas E. Brown with the U.S. Marshals Service, which was involved in the investigation, said. “We will hunt and find you, there is no rock large enough to conceal your whereabouts from us.”
In July 2022, Lynch was in a rideshare vehicle with two bags. When a trooper tried to stop the car, Lynch ran away and tossed the bags into a nearby woodline, according to court records.
The bags were found to contain two kilograms of cocaine, and Lynch was taken into custody. The arrest led investigators to a home in Fairburn, where they found two guns, more than $100,000 in cash and a drug ledger.
Officials believe Lynch distributed 86 kilograms — or about 189.5 pounds — of cocaine in the summer of 2022. Other stash houses across the country were also discovered, including more in north Georgia and some in north New Jersey; Baltimore, Maryland; Buffalo, New York; Charlotte, North Carolina and Chicago.
Eight other defendants have been charged in connection with the cocaine network. Four have pleaded guilty, including two from Georgia:
- Jovan Jackson Sr., a 49-year-old from Snellville, was convicted of a drug charge, a firearm charge and a money laundering charge. His sentencing is on Feb. 16.
- Dominique Gwinn, a 29-year-old from Atlanta, was convicted of a drug charge and a money laundering charge. His sentencing is set for March 2.
After his ten years in prison, Lynch will also be subject to five years of supervised release.
