Liberty County community sees flooding relief

LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Residents in Liberty County are seeing some relief of standing water on their land.

We may remember we reported on their plea for help, as they asked CSX to clear culverts they owned in the area.

WTOC spoke to that family again and learned what’s happened since.

“You know when you’re pretty sure you failed a test and then you get the grade back, and it’s an A and you’re like ugh, I really needed this,” said Liberty County homeowner, Crystle Bishop.

A sigh of relief as Bishop is now able to see more of her land in Liberty County.

After WTOC looked into the flooding there, she said two of three culverts near her home, owned by CSX were cleared.

“Even with just those two opening up, all that water was gone. We had nothing but a trickle coming from the outflow pipe,” said Bishop.

County officials told us it’s more than a dozen acres of land that’s been impacted by flooding, that has no where to go if they aren’t cleared.

She said every time it rains, it floods.

“We love it here. We don’t want to leave,” said Bishop.

While they saw some relief, her hope is that CSX can soon come to an agreement with the county to do routine maintenance.

To keep the culverts clear and save their property.

“The maintenance schedule. If we can get it and keep it, I’d love that. That’s all we need,” said Bishop.
