Large law enforcement presence near Trask Pkwy in Burton due to collision, 1 detained

BURTON, Ga. (WTOC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office notified the public at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday about an increased law enforcement presence in the area of Trask Parkway near the intersection of Parris Island Gateway.

Law enforcement said this was due to a collision where a driver fled the scene.

The sheriff’s office updated the public and said as of 1:30 p.m. the suspect that ran away from the collision has been detained.

The public can still expect to see an increased presence in the area for an unknown amount of time, however the sheriff’s office says there is no threat to the public’s safety.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR), South Carolina Highway Patrol, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and other local emergency agencies helped with this incident.
