SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Jimmy Paiz has been sentenced after pleading guilty to aggravated assault and aggravated battery in a December 2022 shooting near the 500 block of Hartridge Street.

Paiz has been given a 12-year sentence with 4 years to serve and credit for time served so far (2 years and 3 months).

He will serve 21 months in confinement and 8 additional years on probation.

Paiz has been on house arrest for over two years and will now have to turn himself in within 30 days.

He was accused of shooting a 15-year-old who was campaigning in Savannah for Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock and was leaving a flyer at Paiz’s door.

Previously, Paiz has said he wrote the victim a letter and sent it to him right after the shooting.

As part of Paiz’s sentence, he cannot contact any of the victim’s family and must undergo continued mental health treatment at the VA while on probation.

He is not allowed to have any firearms and must continue taking any medicine which is prescribed to him.

Paiz will receive “first offenders” status if he completes his entire sentence and does not commit any crimes.

The judge said that, based on Paiz’s character, he does not believe he will violate any conditions.

The judge also noted that Paiz has operated under house arrest for over two years and has had zero infractions.
