Ice Break? Player strike could cancel Ghost Pirates’ final games
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A potential labor dispute between the Savannah Ghost Pirates and the league that governs the team has put the club’s final four games of the 2025 season at risk — including Friday’s much-anticipated “Star Wars” themed matchup at Enmarket Arena.
WTOC was on site at Enmarket Arena, where fans and ticket holders are worried the game could be canceled if the professional hockey players’ association follows through on recent action.
The players’ association issued a statement saying negotiations with the league have broken down after months of bargaining.
In part, the association accused the league of “unlawful and coercive conduct” and described the bargaining process as “incredibly disappointing.”

The association says its demands are focused on basic protections and working conditions they say are necessary for player safety and career sustainability.
Those demands include:
- clearer health and safety standards
- improved working conditions
- stronger equipment protections
- measures to allow players to remain healthy and competitive
According to documents obtained by WTOC through a public records request, the association filed formal charges against the league in mid-October.
The filings allege bad-faith bargaining, regressive proposals and unilateral changes to policies that affect players’ working conditions and equipment standards.
The league has publicly released part of a counteroffer it says was presented to the players’ association.
That offer includes a 16.4% raise in the salary cap, increased support for player career development, mandated days off, improved travel accommodations for back-to-back game schedules and an increased per diem for players.
Despite the partial concessions in the offer, the association maintains that outstanding issues remain unresolved — particularly around scheduling, travel and what it describes as ongoing changes to equipment and safety protocols.
What this means for ticket holders
If games are canceled, the team and ticket vendors typically announce refund or exchange policies.
Fans are advised to keep their tickets, monitor official team and league channels.
City leaders and team officials say they expect the franchise to return when a resolution is reached and have expressed plans to continue developing activities and events around the arena.
WTOC will continue to follow developments and report on any official announcements from the players’ association, the league and the Ghost Pirates organization.
