Hurricane Debby: One year later

by WTOC Staff

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - August 5th marks one year since Hurricane Debby made landfall as a category 1 hurricane in Florida and became a tropical storm before reaching Savannah.

It’s also the same time we started feeling initial impacts in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry.

According to the National Weather Service, Debby weakened to a tropical storm as it slowly moved across Southeast Georgia.

But, it had lasting impacts for days from flooding in several of our counties.

Streets turned into rivers in our area.

Crews even had rescue people from their homes in the Hostess City.

Stick with WTOC as we will have more extensive coverage of the one year anniversary Wednesday.
