Garden City Police adds grapple net gadget to patrol cars
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Starting in September 2025, the Garden City Police Department will be implementing the ‘Grappler Police Bumper,’ which is described as “an advanced pursuit intervention system designed to safely and effectively stop vehicles attempting to flee from law enforcement.”
In a press release, the Grappler is defined as “a vehicle-mounted device that deploys quickly during traffic encounters.”
It works by securing a fleeing vehicle’s rear tire with a heavy-duty net, tethering it to the patrol car and bringing the pursuit to a stop.

“This innovative technology will significantly reduce the risks associated with high-speed chases, protecting both the public and officers,” the press release states.
Select Garden City Police officers will undergo specialized training to ensure the Grappler is deployed both effectively and responsibly.
The public will have an opportunity to see Garden City Police’s new grapple technology firsthand, as the department is hosting a public display of the device on Friday, August 22, 2025.
The display will be held at 100 Central Avenue in Garden City, GA, from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Residents are invited to stop by, view the Grappler-equipped patrol vehicle, and speak directly with Garden City Police officers.
