GBI: Three Savannah PD officers shot man involved in domestic dispute
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - [Update 2/22/2026] The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating after three Savannah police officers shot at a man involved in a domestic dispute incident.
Malik Hendrix, 23, of Savannah, was shot and injured in the incident. No officers were injured.
GBI officials said Savannah police responded to an apartment on Emerald Drive at approximately 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, following a 911 call. The caller reported a female was being chased from an apartment by a man and provided Hendrix’s name and physical description.
When officers arrived, they said they found a domestic dispute between an adult female victim and Hendrix. Witnesses reported a child had been thrown into a dumpster. GBI confirmed the victim was reunited with her child after an evaluation and treatment.
The GBI reported officers searched for Hendrix but could not locate him. As they concluded their investigation, officers said as Hendrix approached them, they observed his right hand was concealed in his jacket near his chest.
Officers said they then ordered Hendrix to show his hands. When he did not comply, law enforcement said Hendrix removed his right hand from his jacket and pointed an object at officers. GBI reported three officers fired, hitting Hendrix multiple times.
Law enforcement confirmed a K9 unit was released and apprehended Hendrix, causing additional injuries. Officers said they provided medical aid until emergency medical services arrived and transported him to a hospital.
The object Hendrix pointed at officers was later determined to be a cellphone, according to GBI reports.
