TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - An 86-year-old man died and a 71-year-old woman was critically injured in a head-on crash Tuesday evening on US Highway 1 South, according to the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say the crash happened around 8:00 p.m. near Green Oak Road when a white Ford truck traveling north hit a white van traveling south.

Oliver Coleman, 86, of Swainsboro, was driving the truck. Yolanda Orozco-Delgado, 71, of Lyons, was driving the van.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles when deputies arrived, the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office says. Toombs County Fire worked to free both drivers while Toombs-Montgomery EMS provided medical care.

Orozco-Delgado was taken by ambulance to Air Evac Base 91 in Vidalia. She was then flown to Savannah in critical condition by Air Evac 183 of Waycross.

Coleman was taken to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia, where he died from his injuries.

Georgia State Patrol Post 18 in Reidsville took over the investigation.

Early evidence shows Coleman’s truck crossed into the southbound lane and hit Orozco-Delgado’s van head-on. Investigators believe Coleman had a medical issue that caused him to lose control of his vehicle.

“We ask that you keep Orozco-Delgado, her family, and the Coleman family in your prayers during this difficult time,” Sheriff Jordan Knight says.
