Family members of young UTV crash victim face multiple felony charges

BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Family members of a young victim who died in a UTV crash are facing multiple felony charges in Bulloch County.

Back in March, one of the privately owned roads off of JE Winskie Road near Brannen Road in Bulloch County became the scene of tragedy when a 14-year-old lost his life in a UTV crash.

Now, family members of that 14-year-old are facing charges.

On March 8th, GSP and Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash off this road.

GSP confirmed that the 14-year-old who was later identified as Lorin Lanier, died at the scene.

According to booking reports obtained from the Bulloch County Sheriff, the driver of the UTV and older half-brother to the victim, Sam Lanier, have been indicted on murder.

His charges include homicide by vehicle in the first degree, DUI, and a too fast for conditions charge.

The records also show that Sam’s mother, Genevieve Lanier, has also been indicted.

WTOC obtained Geneiveve’s arrest report that says she broke into a Statesboro storage lot where the UTV was being held as evidence for Georgia State Patrol.

The report says she took two cell phones and a sneaker from the UTV.

As a result, her charges include tampering with evidence, criminal trespass, and theft by taking.
