Drugs, guns, money, and 13 dogs seized in Savannah raid; multiple people arrested

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 8:28 p.m. 8/21/2025] The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 13 dogs (and not 16, as previously reported) were rescued in today’s raid, along with evidence pointing to dog fighting and animal mistreatment.

Large amounts of marijuana, significant sums of U.S. currency, multiple firearms, and various controlled substances were also seized.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office shared this video earlier this evening:

[ORIGINAL STORY] Police are on the scene near Norwood and Central Ave out in the Sandfly area of Savannah, where the Sheriff’s office says it is are raiding a location in connection to a possible dog fighting ring.

The Sheriff tells WTOC 16 dogs have been seized so far.

Chatham County Animal Services is also out on the scene.

WTOC spoke with Captain Gene Harley of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department.

Earlier this morning the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, as well as members of the Chatham County SWAT Team, executed two search warrants at a residence on Central Ave.

The investigation started roughly a month and a half ago and was focused on suspicious of various crimes, including dog fighting and controlled substances.

The finds are still preliminary as the police are still actively working the scene and will release their findings later today.

Police have made several arrests in connection with this investigation and Animal Services are currently evaluating the dogs recovered.
