CANDLER COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The Candler County Sheriff’s Office shared details from a chase Saturday night.

The sheriff’s office said what started as an attempted traffic stop on I-16 turned into a chase.

“The driver chose to flee from CCSO deputies, pushing well over 110 mph as the pursuit moved into Bulloch County and up Highway 301,” wrote the Candler County Sheriff’s Office in a social media post.

Georgia State Patrol became involved and, “executed a clean PIT maneuver to bring the situation to a safe conclusion.”

The sheriff’s office said the driver then tried to run away but, “troopers closed that chapter pretty quickly.”

The driver is now facing charges in addition to the charged he was already wanted for.

“He’s now facing a stack of charges, and guess what? He was already wanted before he added all these extras. We all know GSP’s stance on ending pursuits, and many Sheriff’s Offices, including ours, share that same philosophy. Ending it as soon as possible saves lives, period. A big thank-you to GSP and the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office for the solid teamwork,” wrote the Candler County Sheriff’s Office.
