DPH confirms three new measles cases in Georgia
ATLANTA, Ga. (WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Public Health, or DPH, has confirmed three new measles cases in members of a metro Atlanta family, according to the agency. DPH says the family was not vaccinated and had traveled internationally.
DPH noted the individuals were not infectious during travel. The agency is now working to identify anyone who may have been exposed after the family returned home and developed symptoms.
The DPH warned that Measles is highly contagious disease that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The virus can remain in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area.
Symptoms to watch for
DPH says measles symptoms typically appear 7 to 14 days after exposure. Symptoms can include:
- High fever
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Watery eyes
A rash of tiny red spots may appear next, typically starting on the head and then spreading to the rest of the body.
DPH urges anyone with measles-like symptoms to contact a healthcare provider immediately.
Do not go to a doctor’s office, hospital, or public health clinic without calling first to report symptoms.
Healthcare providers who suspect measles in a patient should notify public health immediately.
DPH reports that, including these three cases, Georgia has confirmed five measles cases in 2026. The state recorded 10 confirmed cases in 2025.
