Community members, local businesses step in to help amid wildfires in south Georgia
BRANTLEY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Governor Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency for 91 Georgia counties in response to ongoing wildfires in south Georgia.
Georgia’s State Forester has also issued a ban on outdoor burning for 91 counties in the lower half of the state.

The governor directed the Georgia Forestry Commission and other state agencies to mobilize all necessary resources to assist with active response efforts in the southern region of the state. As firefighters battle the blazes, community members and local businesses are stepping in to help.
Bacon County High School
Bacon County High School Beta & HOSA clubs are collecting supplies to support the men and women battling nearby wildfires.
Dairy Queen Grill & Chill (10611 US Hwy 301, Claxton, GA)
A Dairy Queen in Claxton is helping collect needs for firefighters.
“We are all in this tiny and big world together. Alone we are only one but together we can do big things! Nicole Crosby one of our managers is community strong, compassionate and caring! Her daughter Brooklyn is collecting needs for firefighters. We are a drop off location please help us by dropping off anything you can to help out with her mission,” wrote the Dairy Queen on social media.
WBYZ 94.5 FM in Baxley
“Our Firefighters need your help. If you have time and would be willing to drop some bottled water and Powerade / Gatorade by the Z-94.5 Big WUFE 96.7 studios at 4005 Golden Isles Parkway in Baxley we will deliver it to our firefighters who are actively battling the wild fire off Zoar Road in Appling County,” wrote the radio station on social media.
Tosa Coffee Company in Richmond Hill
“Watching the smoke from the skies this morning was heartbreaking, and we want to do what we can to help those affected. We will be accepting bottled water, Gatorade, and other donations for those in need at our store. We will make sure everything is delivered to those impacted. If you are able to give, no matter how small, it is greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping us support our community during this difficult time,” wrote the Richmond Hill restaurant on social media.
Liberty County firefighters collect donations for Brantley County wildfire victims
Firefighters in Liberty County are collecting water, food and clothing to donate to firefighters and residents affected by wildfires in Brantley County.
Local businesses Walmart, Lowe’s and Cherry Bomb Tattoos donated three pallets of water. Residents have also been donating.
“You got to really rely on your community at this point in time. I mean, they’re going through a hard struggle right now, and they community help, they need help from other sources. Just like how a fire department requests mutual aid when they need help, this is their mutual aid. We need to support them in their time of need,” said Paul Robertson III, a Liberty County firefighter.
A total of 150 pounds of water and food has been collected.
Firefighters will continue to collect donations to support those fighting wildfires.
