Community holds jamboree fundraiser for local child with brain damage

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A jamboree fundraiser was held Sunday to raise money for Jazzmyn, a local child who suffered brain damage at birth.

The community turned out to support the family as they work to fund treatment that could help Jazzmyn.

“Started off as a Go-Fund-Me and now it’s an entire Jamboree,” said Codylynn Allen, Jazzmyn’s mother.

The event featured multiple vendors and activities. Terrance Gamble, Jazzmyn’s father, said vendors sold jewelry and bug spray, while the family sold shirts, candy and donuts.

“As local business owners, it’s so important for us to support each other, so given the chance to support another family who needs help, it’s just it’s what we all do,” said Lindsay Moore, owner of Coastal Vibes Coffee Co.

Gamble said organizers put the event together in two weeks. He said people reached out to help set up the event and attendees reported having fun.

“It’s just very surprising how much our community has helped out,” Gamble said.

Moore said she had not met Jazzmyn until Sunday but knew others getting involved and wanted to help. She said the family is wonderful and she is honored to help them out.

Moore said her cousin went to Duke years ago when he was a young child. When she learned Jazzmyn’s treatment would be at Duke, it touched her heart.

“My cousin was two when he had his issues that he had to go and work with Duke for, and he’s now 47 and they just worked wonders with him and so I hope and pray that we get the funds to help her out so she can go and get that same experience at Duke, it’s a wonderful hospital,” Moore said.
