TATTNALL COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Smoke continued to billow Thursday in Tattnall County after a brush fire burned 200 acres of woods.

Reidsville Fire Department responded to the blaze Wednesday in the middle of the afternoon. The department said 200 acres had been affected.

The Georgia Forestry Commission said 90 percent of the brush fire had been contained by late Wednesday night.

One resident who lives across the road from the fire said she told her kids to pack their bags in case they needed to leave when she saw the height of the flames.

“They were over the trees, you could see them over the trees, the pine trees back there that are in the back view,” she said. “I just, I had never been that close to any flames in my life. That was the closest, and the closest I ever want to get to any flames.”

Tattnall County and the Georgia Forestry Commission have been at the scene all day working on containment lines.
