Beaufort seeks public input on Waterfront Park’s future through community survey
BEAUFORT, S.C. (WTOC) - The City of Beaufort is asking for your help in determining the future of their historic Waterfront Park.
They are asking Beaufort residents and visitors to fill out a community survey.
The promenade area of the waterfront has been closed for a little over four months, after officials found several structural concerns with the relieving platform.
Engineers presented the city with eight possible options to repair it, and now the town has whittled that list down to three.
Designs are still being drawn for the three ideas, and they will be presented and discussed at a public meeting next month.
Those ideas include rebuilding the relieving platform, replacing it, or creating a hybrid structure combining both.
Each will be discussed in January, and when one is chosen, that will lead the city into permitting, contracting, finding funding, and then construction.
“It’s not something that can happen overnight. It’s something we have been working on now for almost the better part of two years.”
The community survey is already available for people to fill out and will be live until mid-January.
“The survey covers more of the nuances and what type of amenities do people want to see in this park. Do they want to large cruise ships tie up to the park or not? Do they want to have a space for kayaks to launch? Those types of activities and those types of questions we would like to have answered,” said Scott Marshall, Beaufort City Manager.
The community survey can be found here.
Marshall says it’s 16 questions and should take 10-15 minutes to complete.
