Annual Patriot Day 5K commemorates the lives lost on 9/11

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Local runners laced up their sneakers for the annual Patriot Day 5k Saturday morning in Forsyth Park.

3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division and Soldiers around the area joined community members at the park.

This run honors the lives lost on September 11th including the brave first responders.

City leaders including Savannah Mayor Van Johnson came out and shared more on what this legacy of this day really means.

“And so that’s an opportunity for us to reflect, resolve, and remember those. Who paid the ultimate sacrifice,” said Savannah Mayor Van Johnson. “Those over 3,000 lives on September 11, 2001.”

Johnson went on to say events like this are a reminder to cherish our freedom and honor those who are still fighting for us everyday.
