5 arrested and charged in homicide on Two Sisters Ferry Rd.

HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office reported that five men have been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the death of 19-year-old Josiah Smart.

The following have been arrested and charged with murder, assault/attempted murder, and attempted armed robbery:

Devin Walker, 19, of Varnville, South Carolina
Jaquan Malik Garnes, 19, of Estill, S.C.
Henry Keshawn Kearse, Jr., 22, of Varnville, S.C.
Jeremiah Bijan Walker, 19, of Hampton, S.C.
DeAndre Maurice Gant, 19, of Estill, S.C.

Henry Keshawn Kearse, Jr., 22, of Varnville, S.C.

Jaquan Malik Garnes, 19, of Estill, S.C.

Devin Walker, 19, of Varnville, South Carolina

Jeremiah Bijan Walker, 19, of Hampton, S.C.

Smart and two others were injured on Two Sisters Ferry Road in the Nixville community at around 8:25 p.m. on May 24.

Sheriff Anthony “Bubba” Russell said, “Gun violence and violent crimes have serious consequences, and anyone who chooses to engage in this type of behavior should expect to be pursued aggressively and brought before the courts. I am proud of the work our investigators have done to move this case forward, and we remain committed to seeking justice for Josiah Smart and his family.”

Additional charges are pending as the investigation remains active and ongoing.
