20-year-old woman struck, killed crossing Veterans Memorial Parkway in Statesboro

STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) - A 20-year-old woman died early Tuesday morning after being struck by an SUV while attempting to cross Veterans Memorial Parkway, according to Georgia State Patrol.

Troopers were called around 4:21 a.m. to Veterans Memorial Parkway at Stambuk Lane to assist the Statesboro Police Department with a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision. GSP confirmed the crash was fatal, and Troop F’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) responded to investigate.

Investigators said 20-year-old Jeffreyuna Williams, of LaGrange, was attempting to use the crosswalk at Stambuk Lane when she crossed against the “do not cross” pedestrian signal for unknown reasons. She was struck by an eastbound Subaru SUV traveling through the intersection with a green light. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Subaru remained on scene and provided a voluntary blood draw. The eastbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Parkway were closed for more than three hours, reopening around 7:45 a.m.
