2 men indicted in downtown Savannah shooting from April
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Two people have been indicted in connection with a shooting in downtown Savannah.
On April 20th, Savannah Police officers responded to a shooting at West Bay Street and Jefferson Street just before 2:30 a.m.
Officials say when officers arrived on the scene, they saw 24-year-old Marquell Moultrie with a gun and acted quickly to take him into custody. While officers approached the suspect, he dropped the gun, and it was picked up by 23-year-old Malik Moultrie, who attempted to leave the scene.
Marquell was indicted on possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of an illegal weapon, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, (for an aggravated assault conviction in Jasper County in October 2024.)
In reference to that previous charge in Jasper County, just months prior to this shooting, Marquell was convicted of a felony- ‘unlawful storing, keeping, or possessing of machine gun, military firearm, or sawed-off shotgun or rifle’, the indictment says.
The other suspect, Malik Moultrie, was on probation in Chatham County at the time of this shooting.
Malik was indicted for tampering with evidence for allegedly concealing a Glock, possession of an illegal weapon, along with possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer. The indictment says that the charge is there because Malik was convicted in Chatham County in June 2024 of aggravated assault, and was still on probation in April 2025, when this shooting happened.
