1 in custody after barricade situation in Myrtle Beach, police say

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - One person is in custody after a Myrtle Beach barricade situation on Friday morning.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department confirmed at 1:18 p.m. that one person is in custody and the home was secured. There is no active threat in the area, according to police.

Officers responded around 10:07 a.m. to 1504 Highway 15 Lot 1 off Harrelson Boulevard for a disturbance.

Barricade situation underway in Myrtle Beach, police say

They made contact with the caller, but when they tried to speak with the alleged suspect, police say he barricaded himself inside the home.

During the barricade, “sounds consistent with gunfire were heard from inside the residence,” a release from the police department said. Police confirmed that shots were fired at the residence.

A nearby neighbor caught the scene unfolding on camera.

In one video, the neighbor sent, you can hear police asking for the suspect to come out of the home.

Multiple residents observed the situation, and some were even able to recount what led up to the situation.

“I was coming home from work, but when I was at work, I saw officers driving very quickly down here,” said Jilaine Lomas, Myrtle Beach Resident. “It was scary because I didn’t know what was going on.”

Police say there will be an increased law enforcement presence in the area while the investigation continues.
