1 Dead, 2 Injured in multi-car crash on Highway 25
PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. (WTOC) - UPDATE: Georgia State Patrol says one person was killed and two others were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Georgia State Route 25, just east of the Houlihan Bridge in Port Wentworth.
Troopers say a driver fell asleep while headed east when his vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and hit another car. The driver of the second car died at the scene. The first vehicle overturned and was then hit by a tractor-trailer. Both of those drivers were injured.
GSP says Troopers responded to the crash around 1:00 PM. Highway 25 was closed for around four and a half hours.
UPDATE: Both lanes of State Route 25 have been reopened.
Crews are on the scene of a vehicle crash on Bonnybridge Road near Highway 21.
Port Wentworth Police Department said this is a vehicle crash with injury. Port Wentworth Fire Department and Chatham Emergency Services are at the scene.
“Drivers are advised to avoid SR-25 and Bonnybridge Road at all costs as the expected opening time of these roads are unknown. Detour routes will be provided, and drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution in the area,” said city officials.
State Route 25 is closed in both directions.
