by Shakuria Smith

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Savannah Impact Program is inviting the community to take part in an awareness event aimed at addressing gun violence and educating young people about its impact.

The “End the Gun Violence” Awareness Event will be held Friday, June 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2005 Waters Ave. in observance of National Gun Violence Awareness Day. The event is free and open to the public.

According to organizers, community leaders and advocacy groups will come together to raise awareness about the consequences of gun violence and encourage conversations focused on prevention and community safety. A special emphasis will be placed on educating Savannah’s younger residents.

Attendees are encouraged to wear orange in honor of survivors of gun violence. Organizers say the event serves as a call for unity and action in response to the impact gun violence has had on local communities.

“Gun violence has robbed our communities of too many friends and loved ones,” Savannah Police Chief Lenny B. Gunther said. “It is important we come together and make it clear: enough is enough.”

This event is free and open to the public.
