Walthour Road closure extended as construction delays continue

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The closure of Walthour Road has been extended through Oct. 31 as construction crews continue work to repair and stabilize the roadway.

Chatham County officials say the project includes repairing and stabilizing the roadway shoulders, resurfacing the road and installing a new sidewalk.

The contractor encountered unanticipated site conditions during construction, delaying work on a sheet pile wall and drainage structures.

Construction is ongoing, and the contractor has committed to working seven days a week until the roadway can reopen, according to the county.

The county apologized for the continued inconvenience.
