Tybee Island lifeguards fly double red flags due to dangerous conditions
TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - Lifeguards continue to fly double red flags at Tybee Island beaches Saturday, prohibiting swimming due to dangerous ocean conditions including strong rip currents.
The National Weather Service has issued both a coastal flood advisory and high surf advisory for the area.
Current beach conditions include 25 mph winds with gusts reaching up to 38 mph. Surf heights are reaching three to four feet.
The flags will remain in place until conditions improve, and lifeguards determine it is safe for swimmers to return to the water.
