Two injured in I-95 crash involving tractor-trailers in Liberty County

LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Two people were injured Tuesday after two tractor-trailers collided on Interstate 95 in Liberty County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The crash happened around 2:04 p.m. Oct. 6 on northbound I-95 near mile marker 87.
Investigators said one tractor-trailer had reentered the right lane from a stop on the shoulder and was accelerating to highway speed when a second tractor-trailer approached from behind. The second truck failed to slow down and struck the rear of the first truck’s trailer.
The collision caused significant damage to both vehicles, and the driver of the second tractor-trailer had to be extricated.
Both drivers were injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver of the second tractor-trailer was charged with following too closely.
Northbound traffic was diverted to Georgia 38 in Liberty County while crews worked to clear the crash. The two right lanes of I-95 were closed for about five hours while the damaged vehicles and equipment were removed.
The crash remains under investigation.
