Thunderbolt hosts sustainability event with recycling drop-off

THUNDERBOLT, Ga. (WTOC) -The town of Thunderbolt hosted a sustainability event featuring vendors and a recycling drop-off for residents.
The event included vendors offering sustainable clothing, eco-friendly products and information about green practices. Residents could drop off tires, batteries, paint and electronics for recycling.
Elizabeth Rhoades, assistant to the town administrator of Thunderbolt, said the event was designed to show the community’s commitment to environmental practices.
“We want to make sure that the surrounding areas, Chatham County and Savannah, know that Thunderbolt wants to be green,” Rhoades said. “And we want to show that sustainability is in more than just using a compost system.”
Rhoades said the timing was chosen to give families activities during summer break.
“Kids are out of school. They’re looking for things to do,” Rhoades said. “And what a better way than to give back to the Earth.”
The town has hosted similar events for Earth Day celebrations, but this was the first official sustainability summer event. Rhoades said the town plans to continue the event at least annually.
