Savannah wants your old photos, memories, and stories — here’s how to share them

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Do you want your stories cemented in history? The City of Savannah’s Archives Department is asking residents to share memories, photos, and personal stories as part of an ongoing effort to preserve the city’s history.

Residents are invited to bring mementos to City Hall during designated drop-in days scheduled throughout the remainder of 2026. Staff will accept donated materials or digitize items on-site, allowing residents to keep their originals. Scanned photos and documents will be uploaded to the City of Savannah’s website, where they can be accessed at any time.

Oral histories welcome

Residents can also share an oral history, ranging from a brief statement about their neighborhood to a long-form interview.

Archives Industry Officer Luciana Spracher said preserving every resident’s story is central to the department’s mission.

“We have such a really diverse and unique history, and it’s all these layers of people and places, and it’s not for us to determine what that history is, but to help preserve it and share it back and make sure it is there for generations,” Spracher said.

How to participate

Drop-in days are scheduled throughout the end of 2026. Residents are encouraged to monitor the City of Savannah’s website for upcoming dates and times.
