Pooler community shares input on future plans for ‘The District’ site

POOLER, Ga. (WTOC) - The City of Pooler says more studying is needed before moving forward with a major multi-use development site known as The District.

The 116-acre project calls for a walkable area that includes apartments, hotels, restaurants and retail along Pooler Parkway and Pine Barren Road.

Monday night, Pooler City Council considered a rezoning request for 1,060 multi-family residential unit within the The District.

The request brought up multiple concerns from residents who citing traffic conditions, nearby school zones, parking, tree removal and flooding issues.

Other speakers told city council the proposed site would give families and visitors more to do in Pooler without having to travel to downtown Savannah. Supporters also said the multi-use site would offer more places to gather and build community.

After more than two hours of discussion and hearing from developers, city council decided to postpone the zoning vote. Instead city leaders say they want to review a recent traffic study before moving forward.
