Pizza and chicken and snow cones? Oh my!

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -Between trainings, meetings and formation calls, leaving post is difficult for soldiers, according to the report. Fort Stewart created the food truck plaza to bring more food options directly to soldiers.

Angela Crowell, Fort Stewart Exchange Service business manager, said the mobile food park gives soldiers a designated space and location for food trucks.

“So what this does with the mobile food park it just gives us the space that we can go to and the soldiers know exactly where the food trucks are located and makes it convenient for everybody,” Crowell said.

The food truck plaza was designed with soldiers in mind as part of an effort to improve quality of life on base.

Nina Ford, public affairs officer with the Third Infantry Division, said the plaza is an investment in soldiers, the community and quality of life, and connects directly to units.

“So this food truck plaza is an investment to our soldiers and our community and the quality of life but it directly ties to our units. Our soldiers with a better quality of life are more ready to go fight our nation’s wars and I’m very excited for what’s next,” Ford said.

The food truck plaza opened August 13 and has quickly become popular on base.

Lucas Perez, with the 9th Engineer, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, said he visited for the first time with friends after hearing positive feedback.

“This is my first time, I decided to come here with my buddies and we heard great things about this place I’m actually going to go get pizza right now. And I had seen it being built so I was very interested in seeing what they have,” Perez said.

Daniel Griffin, owner of The Yellow Bee food truck and a veteran, said the plaza is an improvement compared to previous food options on base.

“Being a veteran myself we just had food court and the chow halls the MREs when we were in the field so this is a lot better,” Griffin said.

Officials said keeping soldiers fed is tied to keeping the country safe.
