New elementary school holds first-ever open house in Rincon

RINCON, Ga. (WTOC) - Some students and teachers in Effingham County will start the new school year at a new school.

Creekside Elementary on Blue Jay Road in Rincon held its first-ever open house Thursday night. The new school is modeled after Rincon Elementary School. And the new K-5 grade school will welcome about 1,200 students next week.

“That’s been our vision all along—just to build a very positive school environment for our students, our teachers, and our families,” said principal Kelly Fortson. “We want it to be very welcoming. We want it to be collaborative, and just somewhere everyone loves to be.”

Part of that collaboration began nearly two years ago, when Effingham County Schools offered the community a chance to name the new school and the mascot.

The mascot is the Crawdad!

Creekside Elementary is the ninth elementary school within the school district.
