National ‘Men of Honor’ event recognizes male nurses in the field

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Nurses Magazine’s “Men of Honor” signature event on Saturday night celebrated some of the most impactful men in nursing across the country.
The event was held at The DeSoto Savannah, highlighting male nurses in clinical practice, education, leadership, research, and community service. With a focus on how their work improves patient care, mentors the next generation, and helps ease workforce shortages.
Past president of the American Nurses Association Ernest Grant said male nurses make up only about 15% of the 5.3 million registered nurses practicing in the United States.
“The men who are being recognized [Saturday] are people who have been in the field for quite some time, they’ve made their mark in the field, and one of the things that i truly believe that they’re doing also is serving as mentors to younger men and also students who are in high school and grade school - and getting them interested in the profession as well.”
The Nurses Magazine is a national platform dedicated to elevating nurses’ voices, leadership, and impact, according to organizers. Its mission is to champion excellence and innovation in nursing through publications, recognition, partnerships, and events, and to connect healthcare leaders, educators, and professionals to advance workforce development and the future of nursing.
“This initiative is deeply personal and professionally significant,” said Dr. Donel J. Richemond, President & CEO of The Nurses Magazine, who is also a male nurse. “Men of Honor is more than a celebration; it’s a movement to recognize the dedication, leadership, and transformative.”
