Bottoms campaigns in Savannah, urges voters to get out and vote

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Keisha Lance Bottoms made campaign stops in Savannah, including an appearance at the NAACP’s annual Freedom Fund Banquet, 10 days before the election.

The former Atlanta mayor said it was good to be back in Savannah campaigning for the Coastal Empire’s support. Bottoms had one message: get out and vote.

“Let’s make sure that our voices are reflected in our votes, it has always been the most powerful weapon that we have,” Bottoms said.

Campaign spending

Bottoms addressed a key factor in the gubernatorial race: money. She said her opponent, Republican Rick Jackson, has spent more than $100 million on his campaign, most of it toward attack ads against her.

“More than $100 million has been put up against me and my family, uh, and the polls are tied so it’s a reminder that billionaires may have the money, but the people still have the power,” Bottoms said.

Supporters react

Bottoms was welcomed into the room with applause from her supporters.

“If we all just do the right thing and wake up, we all can change Georgia,” one attendee said.

With 10 days left until Election Day, Bottoms said she will continue to show up throughout the state and hopes voters will do the same on Nov. 3.

“When you don’t show up to vote you are voting for something,” Bottoms said.

Bottoms and Jackson are two of dozens of candidates voters will see on the ballot this year.
