Hinesville Walmart’s temporary closure turns into community blessing

HINESVILLE, Ga. (WTOC) - A Walmart near the Flemington community closed Sunday for renovations and donated its remaining perishable food to the Liberty County Manna House before locking its doors.

Manna House volunteers distributed the food to community members Wednesday.

Donation included meat, produce and baby formula

The donated items included meat, vegetables and baby formula, according to volunteer Kevon Elliott.

“They weren’t just giving out meat, they were giving out vegetables, you know, baby formula, you know, so I think them closing down is a little hurtful to the community, but they really helped it with donating it to the church and everything,” Elliott said.

Elliott said the donation provided additional support during the store’s closure.

“With them donating the food, I feel like that gives a big push to like why they’re shutting down, you know, so it kind of helps the people out while they’re shut down,” Elliott said.

Manna House serves at-risk children, disabled veterans, low-income families and senior citizens through weekly food and clothing giveaways.
