Early voting for SC Republican Senate primary begins
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina will soon take a major step toward electing its first new United States Senator in over a decade.
Here’s what to know about early voting in the special Republican primary:
WHAT HAPPENED?
The primary was scheduled after the sudden death of longtime Sen. Lindsey Graham on July 12. Graham had already secured the Republican primary in June as part of his re-election bid.
WHEN DOES EARLY VOTING START?
Early voting in the Republican primary takes place from Aug. 5-7, with centers opening from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO VOTE?
The South Carolina Election Commission provided the following guidelines on voter participation:
- Those who participated in the June Republican primary are eligible to vote in the Senate primary
- Those who participated in the June Democratic primary are not eligible to vote in the Senate primary
- Those who did not participate in either of the June primaries are eligible to vote in the Senate primary

- Rep. Russell Fry
- Sen. Darline Graham
- Mark Lynch
- Mark McBride
- Rep. Ralph Norman
- Glenda Gail Parker
- Mark Samford
- Sam Shepherd

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
Voters will be required to present a photo ID before casting their ballots.
WHEN IS THE ACTUAL ELECTION?
Election day for the primary will be Aug. 11. If necessary, a runoff will be held on Aug. 25.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The winner of the Republican primary will face Democratic nominee Dr. Annie Andrews in the general election.
