Delta plane bound for Atlanta has close call with Mexico flight landing on same runway
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Delta flight bound for Atlanta had a close call with another plane in Mexico City early Monday morning.
Delta flight 590 was trying to take off shortly before 7:30 a.m. after a service stop when the pilots “observed another aircraft landing in front of their aircraft on the same runway,” Delta officials said.
The pilots were able to stop the takeoff, the airline said.
The Delta flight had 144 people on board with a six-person crew.
The flight departed for Atlanta shortly before 9:45 a.m.
“Because nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, Delta will fully cooperate with authorities as the circumstances around this flight are investigated. We appreciate the flight crew’s actions to maintain situational awareness and act quickly – part of Delta’s extensive training,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement.
Delta has filed reports with the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration and aviation authorities in Mexico.
